Forest House Yoga 200 Hour, Teacher
Training Program Syllabus Overview:
The student will learn in-depth, the
principles of yoga alignment and form while performing
and assisting basic and advanced asanas. Learning yoga
asana is a powerful, transformative practice. Learning
to instruct and inspire others to delve deeper, and
to strive with great dedication and love is an art!
With practice you will learn to impart the knowledge
to others in a way that inspires and awakens them in
the same way your yoga practice inspired you! This is
not an easy task, but one you can develop through practice
and dedication (just like your asana practice).
*60 hours of "Techniques"
will include classes taken at Forest House Yoga or approved
affiliated studio with special teacher trainers. Students
will be responsible for a brief summary journal entry
for each class attended, to be reviewed by training
staff. This allows the teacher trainers to monitor,
the trainee's personal progress and asana training.
Class experiences, observations and questions will be
addressed during teacher training classes.
Teaching Methodology
(25 hours)
The student will learn and practice
specific techniques in the following:
· Connecting with your confident and intelligent
touch.
· Developing an "eye" for misalignments
and techniques for quick, efficient adjustments.
· Formulating class sequences to facilitate optimal
"opening" and strength building.
· Learn the different energy centers (chakras)
and channels (nadis), and how to facilitate "flow"
through those channels.
· Utilizing class themes for inspiration and
deeper connection to the energies.
· Meeting the needs of "Special Populations"
(those injured, or with other physical limitations).
· Developing confidence as a teacher as well
as setting boundaries without offending.
· Discovering the power of sound through the
presentation of yoga mudras, chanting, voice projection
and other tools in class. (Also attend special chanting
nights and social events.)
· Applying your personal discovery of self to
your everyday teaching skills making you and your style
deeply personal and real. (Teaching the yoga you live!)
Anatomy and Physiology (30 hours)
The student will learn the fundamentals
of skeletal, muscular and neuro anatomy as it applies
to asana, meditation and general health and well-being.
Through this deeper understanding of
the body's anatomy and its intricate workings
we will explore the deep regions of the the yogic
anatomy of the Chakras, bandhas, koshas and breath.
Powerful mind-body connections will be revealed and
direct application of this learning, will be experienced
personally. Each participant will be transformed through
a new understanding of our psycho-somatic relationship
with our bodies.

Philosophy, Ethics, Lifestyle (30
hours)
In depth study of the great texts
of yoga, used for presenting yoga philosophy that will
enhance and enrich your skills in the classroom. The
knowledge imparted promises to inspire the teacher trainee
to deepen their own practice! Deepening your level of
understanding of the science, spirit and philosophy
which supports the ancient yoga teachings, will not
only help you to become a great yoga practitioner, but
a great leader and mentor for your own students. Teacher
trainees will in turn learn how to apply these principles
of ancient yogic wisdom into their lives, and impart
them to others within their own teaching style.
Texts we will explore
will include:·
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali:
Study of the "Eight Fold Path" of yoga as
presented by the ancient sage Patanjali. Included will
be intense focus on the "Yamas" and "Niyamas",
(especially useful for theme-building as well as learning
the ethics and virtues of yoga philosophy.) We will
explore the "Self" through meditation techniques
presented by this ancient science of "observing
the thoughts", and will keep a journal entry on
our meditations. You will be guided and mentored through
the process and will master meditation techniques that
will be useful throughout your lifetime!
· The Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita: We
will travel back in time to India, 5000 years ago through
the richly woven and beautifully presented teachings
of the Bhagavad Gita, (a 700-verse poetic literary piece
which was extracted from a greater voluminous text known
as The Mahabharata) which teaches a personal form of
yoga philosophy that touches us deeply as it is so timely
and relevant even in (especially in) our modern times.
This yoga text, read and touted by philosophers, scholars,
scientists in every language and in every culture, has
taught thousands that we can indeed have a personal
relationship with the Divine! That good indeed, does
conquer evil!
· Hatha Yoga Pradipika: (Meaning "self
illuminating") Is a great and ancient yogic text
which teaches purification and illumines a multitude
of physical, mental, and spiritual problems for aspirants,
using techniques such as asana, (postures); pranayama,
(breath expansion); and shatkarma (various cleansing
techniques devised to purify the stomach, intestines,
nervous and respiratory systems). The yogis believe
that it is through purification of the body, we can
begin the process of Neti-Neti (recognizing what is
NOT us). Only then can we access the inner most regions
of the mind, and realize the Self.
· Other works of enlightened Masters.
These various texts of the Vedas will be presented masterfully
in a manner which will not only inspire and enlighten
you, but in a way you will remember for a lifetime!
Techniques, Training/Practice (100
hours)
Techniques Training/Practice-Includes
asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation,
and other traditional yoga techniques. Hours to include
analytical training in how to teach and practice the
techniques, and guided practices of the techniques themselves.
We will also focus on sequencing and building class
themes, and much time will be spent in practice teaching
in class to build confidence and the voice of the teacher.
